The Shandong Provincial Government recently held a meeting on pollution control work in the Shandong section of the East Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, requesting to ensure that the main water delivery lines in the southern section of the Yellow River in 2005 basically meet the three-level surface water quality standards; The whole line has reached the three types of surface water quality standards, forming a "clear water corridor".
The eastern route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project involves 10 prefecture-level cities in Shandong Province, with 487 kilometers of main water delivery lines and a drainage area of 57,000 square kilometers. In recent years, Shandong Province has invested a total of 1.46 billion yuan to comprehensively control 37 rivers along the water diversion route, and the water quality along the Shandong section of the east route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project has been improved. In order to ensure water safety in the water-receiving areas, the Shandong provincial government signed a letter of responsibility for pollution control goals with 10 municipal governments along the route.
Shandong Province will also implement the strictest total pollutant control. In 10 cities along the water diversion route, it will first implement a system of prohibiting and restricting the development of industrial registrations. Shut down alcohol production lines of 10,000 tons or less, starch production lines of 20,000 tons or less, and waste paper production lines that cannot stably discharge up to the standard in the catchment area along the water diversion route.
